Spear & lobster fishing was a blast. Headed out this past Saturday with a buddy who was finishing up his OW cert and to do some spear and lobster fishing. Paul who is already a free diver decided to get his PADI OW cert to enhance his spear fishing capabilities . It was a great time, weather was perfect the sea was pretty calm. Once we arrived at our location the sun was just starting to set we put on our wet suits grabbed our light and lobster bags and dropped into the water. Lobster diving is a rush all of its own, you have the element of the dark water, holding your breathe and looking for these large sea bugs. They are lighting fast too. When the light hits them they scatter and hide like a cockroaches. With Paul's skilled experience we were able to grab 6 large bugs bag them and be done .
The next morning we finished off Paul's OW cert and did a little spear hunting. Boy do I have a fish story about the one that got away !! I came up upon a large halibut I quickly lined up the shot and pulled the trigger and nothing, my safety was on!! So I quickly took off the safety and lined back up...Bam !!! I nailed it !!! This halibut was so large it took off with me attached, it went straight, turned right, swung back around for a 360 and that's when it gave us the fin and was outta there, my spear broke in half, and my big fish was gone.... Man, what a rush !!!!...I'm hooked on spearfishing now, now I know why my dad used to spear the waters of Catalina back in his day.
Paul was able to shoot another halibut before we headed back. Thanks Paul for a great adventure of lobster and spear fishing.
Now it's time to enjoy the fruits of our labor. That night was an already planned dinner party for my daughter Hillary who just received her Masters degree .Here fiancé Ryan helped cook up the lobster while hank their large lab looked on with caution and curiosity ....
We boiled up the lobster and then finished them off on the grill ~ they were awesome !!
Kathy took the sheep's head and made ceviche and hands down the tenderest white fish that was perfect for ceviche.
Needles to say I loved the entire experience, I guess you could say I'm hooked. Thanks again Paul for a great experience looking forward to doing it again.
